5 Signs It's Time to Seek Therapy for Your Anxiety

by Darrin Pfannenstiel, J.D., M.Ed., LPC-A | Therapist - Men, Women, and Couples

Anxiety is a common experience for many people, and it's normal to feel anxious from time to time. However, when anxiety starts to interfere with your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Here are some signs that you may need to seek therapy for anxiety:

  1. You feel anxious most of the time, and you find that you're constantly worrying and feeling anxious, even about things that shouldn't be causing you stress.

  2. You avoid certain situations. You find that you're avoiding situations that cause you anxiety, such as social events or work meetings.

  3. You experience physical symptoms. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and difficulty breathing. If you're experiencing these symptoms regularly, it’s time to seek help.

  4. Your anxiety is affecting your relationships. Anxiety can cause you to withdraw from your friends and family, or causing conflict in your relationships.

  5. You're using unhealthy coping mechanisms like drugs, alcohol, or other unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety.

It's important to remember that seeking therapy for anxiety is a sign of strength, not weakness. A therapist can work with you to develop coping strategies and tools to help you manage your anxiety and improve your quality of life. Don't suffer in silence – if you're experiencing any of these signs, it's time to seek help.
